While they weren't a terrible team, they still have their flaws and despite this, Dorion would like to lock up the recently acquired forward Alex Debrincat.
According to Bruce Garrioch, the Senators will extend a qualifying offer to the RFA but they are unsure whether he will sign with the team long-term unfortunately.
DeBrincat was a part of the group brought in during the rebuild to make the team a winning team. Ultimately the winger was moved for what ultimately became defenseman Kevin Korchinski and center Paul Ludwinski.
Since DeBrincat is an RFA the Senators would ultimately love to lock him down long-term and avoid losing him when he gains UFA status in a year. There's still speculation about whether he is moved at the draft, but it appears, for now, the Senators will qualify him at $9 million AAV whether or not he signs.
Ultimately if you were thinking he'd return to Chicago, GM Kyle Davidson would have to move someone, as it stands the Hawks cap sits just above $5 Million right now.
The young winger hasn't had a season below 40 points in his career and in his first season in Ottawa, put up 27 goals and 39 assists for 66 points.
