The Chicago Blackhawks are prepared to take on the struggling Buffalo Sabres after the team received a good shot in the arm with their 4-2 win over the San Jose Sharks in their home opener.
The Blackhawks played a very solid home game as they outshot the sharks 27-22 kept their penalties 2-3 on the night and committed less turnovers. The Sharks were undisciplined, and the Blackhawks made them pay with two power play goals from Tyler Bertuzzi and Nick Foligno.
The Hawks now will take on another team who is in a struggle who have only one regulation win through six games. The Sabres have struggled mightily in their attempt to win games even while they hold leads. One key area the Sabres cannot seem to shake is their goals against per game which stands at 4.0 compared to the Blackhawks at 2.8.
Several Blackhawks are starting to awaken in their scoring as Tyler Bertuzzi, Taylor Hall, and Jason Dickinson all scored their first goals of the season against the Sharks. If the Hawks want to remain successful, they will need more contributions from these players and others as the team's offence continues to awaken and the lines continue to gel.
Petr Mrazek has started four games this season and has two along with the goals against of 2.53 and a save percentage of .911.
The team also saw Lukas Reichel make his season debut to which he unfortunately did not register any points. If head coach Luke Richardson were to continue using Reichel it may take some games for him to get into the groove and work well with his linemates.
I expect a strong performance offensively from the Blackhawks as the team seems to be gathering strength and pulling from their veteran players. The Blackhawks will be hosting their second game in a row as they remain on their home stand as the team of the organization along with the city of Chicago continues to celebrate The United Center 30th birthday.
