Stan Bowman haunts the Blackhawks in this year's Stanley Cup playoffs
Trades can haunt teams especially when the players being shipped turned out to be fantastic and the Chicago Blackhawks are watching a product of Stan Bowman when he traded defenseman Gustav Forsling away back in 2019.
It was a deal at the time that Bowman felt was necessary to do as he received Calvin de haan and Aleksi Saarela In exchange. The development stage for Forsling seem to have taken longer than they hoped and decided to move on.
After spending some time with the Hurricanes, he was placed on waivers to which the Florida Panthers signed him to a three-year $8 million contract extension.
In these playoffs, Forsling has been playing well as through 13 games, he has scored two goals, with six assists for eight points and is a + 9. His regular season has been one of his best. Through 79 games, he scored ten goals with 29 assists for 39 points but was a + 56 with 43 penalty minutes.
While contributing on the scoreboard, his defensive stats are off the charts which has helped the Panthers become the team they are today.
It's likely that the Blackhawks look at this trade and shake their heads. However, the Blackhawks have turned a page on that era and are currently trying to build their new here of players in hopes and becoming a perennial playoff team and Stanley Cup contender again soon.
