The Ottawa Senators have been struggling with the cap, and this doesn't help their case with resigning Alex DeBrincat.
The Sens recently signed Artem Zub to a 4-year contract, worth 4.6 million dollars a season. With them dedicating all that money to Zub, there may not be enough to keep the Cat in Ottawa.
Right now, the 25-year-old is a RFA (restricted free agent), and is making 6.4 million dollars, and is on the last year of his contract. When the time comes to resign him, Alex may be asking for more than what he is currently making. DeBrincat currently has 10 goals and 22 assists, totaling up to 32 points.
The Senators have a little over 5 million in cap, and will have to trade a couple contracts if they wish to keep Alex DeBrincat.
