The rivalry between the St Louis Blues and the Blackhawks has raged for decades. Season after season, the playoffs at times, both teams would grind down each other defences trying to gain the upper hand while trying to win.
It appears that long-time Blues broadcaster and former NHL goaltender Darren Pang has decided to leave the organization and crossover to the rival Blackhawks. Review with The Athletic with Jeremy Rutherford Pang explaining why he decided to leave. It was for a variety of reasons.
Pang had played three seasons in his short NHL career with the Blackhawks. He played 81 games, with 27 wins and 35 losses and seven ties. He had a 4.05 goals against average and a .882 save percentage.
Certainly not flattering numbers, however, he still made it to the NHL.
While speaking to Rutherford he explained what happened.
«Well, that's a difficult question for me to answer because I'm not on that other side,» Pang said. «I mean, around the league, we're seeing what's happening in our business and we all know that Bally is going through a tough run right now. Maybe the process (of signing him to a new contract) takes a lot longer to get approved. That could be one reason. Maybe the decisions don't go through St. Louis? Maybe they have to go through L.A.? We've had it great in St. Louis. It's been a very stable broadcast, from our hosts to our analysts. Maybe sometimes when you have something for a long period, it gets taken for granted.
I have listened to Pang as a guest host with TSN and Sportsnet I enjoy his commentary. The Blackhawks will gain from this and should give the fans a new voice.
