NHL Insider Ben Pope reported that the Blackhawks sold a whopping $2.5 million in season tickets prior to Bedard being drafted.
It was a coup for the team to draft Bedard first overall, along with stacking their draft picks in order to advance the rebuild. As the day of opening night draws closer, the excitement will grow.
The team has only picked 1st overall twice in history, which makes this historic pick even more unlikely. Patrick Kane was the 1st overall pick the Blackhawks made in 2007, and he put in 15 years of service for the team.
Additionally, the Blackhawks have only reached the playoffs once in the last six seasons, during the pandemic-shortened 2019-2020 season.
Hopefully, Bedard's arrival will signal a change in fortune for the Original Six franchise, with playoffs and a Stanley Cup on the horizon.
