Wayne Simmonds Mentions Where He Wants to Play Next
Well, this is interesting. Wayne Simmonds has come out and said that he prefers to play for a team that is going to contend this year, and he chose the.....Maple Leafs?
Simmonds said that the Maple Leafs are his preferred destination, as he believes that they will be contenders.
There are two interesting things about this.
The first, is that Wayne Simmonds believes that he has the ability to pick and choose where he goes.
Simmonds was placed on waivers prior to the start of the season, and is no longer a player that teams are going to want to make a priority to get.
Simmonds has just 26 points in his last 111 games, AS A FORWARD. He just is not in his "enforcer" prime anymore, and will struggle to get any contending team to call him.
The second interesting this is the fact that he says the Maple Leafs are his preferred destination. The Leafs have made the playoffs each of the last 6 years, and have failed to make it out of the first round EVERY YEAR.
In fact, they haven't made it past the first round since 2004, while making the playoffs just once from 2006-2016 before their recent first round struggles.
I doubt Wayne Simmonds is the answer to the Leafs' playoff struggles.
