Kyle Davidson has done all in his power this past off-season to take a large step forward, bringing in several signings- the most out of any team in the NHL, which were all quality household names. Forwards like Tyler Bertuzzi, three-time Stanley Cup Champion Pat Maroon and more were brought in to enforce Connor Bedard with structure.
It is quite the stretch to assume that the Blackhawks may earn a playoff spot in the Western conference for the 2024-25 season, but one could hope.
Here is three bold predictions for the Blackhawks as they dive into the 24-25 campaign:
Connor Bedard beats last-seasons personal goal record, scores 50 goals
Bedard's rookie season was overlapped by an injury after breaking his jaw following a hit from New Jersey Devils defensemen Brendan Smith, but that did not stop 'Bedsy' from achieving a high-point total and taking home the Calder Trophy, earning the NHL's top rookie of the year. The 19-year old best ability is his shot, and it's quite clear that he is more comfortable in year two than in year one so far.
Seth Jones agrees to waive his no-movement clause per request by Kyle Davidson
Kyle Davidson is under lots of pressure as several names within the organization will have to be signed following the completion of the 2024-25 NHL season, and cap space must be made. Seth Jones, who's the teams highest paid player, is soaking a large percentage of the Blackhawks salary cap and is one of the highest paid defensemen in the NHL. Recording 31 points in 67 games last season, that is clearly not enough- another organization could acquire Jones in hopes to rejuvenate his career into an elite defensemen, that would match his pay grade.
Arvid Soderblom takes the backup goaltending role, earns more games than free-agent signing Laurent Brossoit
Last season fans and pundits came together in one to agree that goaltender Arvid Soderblom is not NHL ready, at such a young age his confidence has nearly been shattered with only 7 wins throughout the 51 career games he has played. This off-season the Blackhawks management listened and signed goaltender Laurent Brossoit, who has won a Stanley Cup in a backup/third string role, but sadly he has suffered an off-season injury after signing and will remain on the IR.
Soderblom has played one game so far this year and has proved his confidence is much better, despite only 5 wins in 32 games played last season.
